We’re excited to spotlight some of our BTC2019 teachers this year, and today, we’d like to introduce you to Petri Basson. Petri will be teaching “The Challenges in Auditing Digital Assets.” Check out our chat with Petri to learn more:

How did you get involved in your subject area & why are you passionate about teaching it?

I initially got involved in the blockchain industry when I mined for BTC and a few other currencies with my gaming PC back while I was studying. Since then, I’ve been following the industry and keeping track of all the new developments, but never had a chance to actually use it in my day job.

In 2017, I had the opportunity to work with a group who were figuring out how an audit of investments in digital assets would work. Fast forward a couple of years, and we now have a number of tools we use to perform these audits and a team of people working on it.

I’m passionate about teaching, I think one of the biggest things stopping companies from adopting these technologies is a misunderstanding of how they work. Through education, you can grow the entire industry and also help people to improve their companies and lives.

Why do you think certifications and standards are important in the blockchain industry today?

Certifications and standards are important in any industry. They set a minimum level of competency that people require to perform certain work. Just like you would want to make sure your doctor has his medical degree and he is certified to practice medicine, you want to make sure your blockchain expert actually knows a nonce from a hash before you get them working in your organization. This is even more important when it comes to security.

Why have you decided to teach a session at #BTC2019?

I think it’s important for people to gain a better understanding of how blockchain works and break down a number of misconceptions out there. When you get into the fundamentals and show people how things actually work, it’s great to see how people have that “Aha!” moment and realize the potential of this technology.

We’re looking forward to attending Petri’s master class at BTC2019! Make sure to join us by getting your tickets here.
